Payments

i. Fleet Payment Setup

The LINKA GO app can be configured to accept payments depending on your fleet needs. The default payment processor for the LINKA GO app is Stripe (https://stripe.com). In order to accept payments, the fleet must have created a Stripe account. Therefore the business must have a bank account in one of the countries supported by Stripe. The list of countries supported by Stripe can be found here: https://stripe.com/global.

On the other hand, LINKA GO can accept the most common credit cards regardless of which country they were issued. This includes Visa and Mastercard. A full list of credit cards accepted by LINKA GO can be found here: https://stripe.com/docs/payments/cards/supported-card-brands

To enable payments, your LINKA fleets representative will send you a link to connect your Stripe account with LINKA GO. The transaction fees charged by Stripe for each rental can be found here: https://stripe.com/pricing. In addition to the Stripe fees, LINKA GO charges an additional 1% of the rental fare.

ii. Pricing Setup

Pay as you Go

LINKA GO can offer one or two payment options. The first option must be in a “Pay as you go” format, where the user makes payment when they start their rental. The required format is as follows:

First ____ mins, $____ Additional Fare: $____ / ____ mins

The currency used can be changed to match the location of your fleet.

  • Example 1: First 30 mins, €5 Additional Fare: €1 / 10 mins

  • Example 2: First 2 hours, AUD$20 Additional Fare: AUD$5 / 1 hour

  • Example 3: First 1 minute, Free Additional Fare: $0.10 / 1 min

Subscription

In addition to the Pay as you Go option, an additional monthly subscription payment option can be offered. When a user selects the subscription plan, they pay a monthly fee on top of the per-rental fare. By paying the monthly subscription, this allows the per-rental fare for the subscription to be lower than the fare for the Pay as you Go option.

  • Example: $10.00 / month First 30 mins, Free Additional Fare: $2 / 30 mins

Customizing name of plan

By default, the name of the two plans are “Pay as you Go” and “Subscription” (1). This will be visible in the LINKA GO app. The names of these two plans can be configured on Fleetview to match your fleet’s needs.

Customizing pricing description

By default, the description of the pricing will be in the following format:

First ____ mins, $____ Additional Fare: $____ / ____ mins

This will be visible in the LINKA GO app (2). The text displayed for both the Pay as you Go and Subscription plans can be configured in Fleetview to match your fleet’s needs.

iii. Payments in LINKA GO

User Payment Setup

When credit card payments are enabled for the LINKA GO app, the user will be prompted to select a plan and add their credit card before they can start their rental.

Payment Details

The user can press the “Payment” section on the left menu to view their credit card details and plan details. The user can also update their credit card details.

Credit card hold

When the user starts their rental, a hold is placed on the user’s credit card. This is also referred to as a Pre-authorization. The purpose of the hold is to ensure the credit card is valid before the bike is unlocked. The amount of the hold can be configured by the fleet.

On Stripe, the hold will appear as an “Uncaptured” payment:

Ending Rental

When the rental is ended, the total fare is calculated and the user’s credit card is charged. If the rental fare is less than the hold amount, the rental fare will be deducted from the hold amount, and the remaining balance of the hold will be refunded. On Stripe, this would appear as a “Partial Refund”.

If the rental fare is greater than the hold amount, then the entire hold amount will be charged to the credit card. In addition a separate charge will appear on Stripe for the overage amount in excess of the hold.

Rental Cancellation

A rental may be cancelled if the lock battery is too low when starting the rental, or if the LINKA GO app was unable to connect to the lock. When a rental is cancelled, the hold is immediately released. On Stripe the charge will be indicated as “Canceled”. After a charge is cancelled, it may take multiple days to disappear from a user’s bank statement.

1 Minute Grace Period

The user’s credit card will not be charged if the user ends their rental within 1 minute of starting their rental.

Prepay

By default, payment occurs only after the user starts their rental. When the prepay feature is enabled, the user must load funds onto their LINKA GO account and maintain a minimum balance before they can start their rental. After the user finishes their rental, the fare is deducted from a user’s account balance. The prepay feature is disabled by default, and can be enabled on Fleetview.

Understanding Rental Payment Information

The total amount the user paid for the rental above was $24. Here is the breakdown:

  • As determined by the merchant, a $50 hold was placed on the user’s credit card.

  • After the user completed the rental, the user was refunded $26, as the total cost of

their rental was $24. On Stripe this is labeled as a “Partial refund”.

  • An additional fee of $0.98 was charged by Stripe and the LINKA GO application fee.

Stripe transaction fees can be viewed here. LINKA GO charges an additional fee of

    1% of the rental cost.

  • As a result, the net amount earned by the merchant for this rental is $23.02.

Note: When the user is on a rental, the user will see a hold as a pending charge on their credit card statement. This hold charge will be released when the rental is completed, minus the cost of their rental.

Refunding Customers

In the event that the customer was overcharged or that the customer requests a refund of their rental, press the “Refund” button on the top right of the above screenshot.
